Trump issues threat to BRICS nations: Turkey is trying to become a member

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has threatened BRICS member countries in a statement posted on his social media account.

In a statement on his own social media platform, Truth Social, Trump emphasized that the idea of "standing by and watching BRICS countries try to move away from the dollar" is over, and stated the following:

We require that these countries commit that they will not create a new BRICS currency, or support any other currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar.

Otherwise, they will face 100 percent tariffs and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. economy. They can go find another 'sucker.'

There is no chance that BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in international trade, and any country that tries to do so should say goodbye to America.

WHAT IS BRICS?

The acronym BRICS consists of the first letters of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, and was established to defend the common interests of large and developing economies and to play a more effective role in the global economy.

Covering 5 countries that engage in economic and political cooperation, BRICS aims to create a new balance of power in the Western-centered world order.

PARTNER COUNTRY OFFER TO TURKEY

Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat had announced in a statement that Turkey had been offered "partner country" status by BRICS.

Stating that this status is a transitional stage in the organization's structure, Bolat did not comment on Turkey's response to the offer.
