Trump nominates his daughter-in-law for Republican National Committee leadership

Former US President Donald Trump, while continuing his campaign for the 2024 presidential election, expressed his support for his daughter-in-law to lead the committee in a speech on Monday.

Following reports in the US media that the committee's current leadership has disappointed Trump, the former president publicly endorsed his daughter-in-law and North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley for the co-chair positions.

The committee will elect a new chair should the current chair, Ronna McDaniel, resign. According to US media, current chair McDaniel may step down following the South Carolina Republican primary on February 24.

The RNC's primary role within the party is to raise funds for elections and work to mobilize voters. Trump's statements are expected to be influential among the members who will vote to determine the new leadership of the RNC.

In his speech, Trump stated, "Lara is an incredibly talented communicator and is dedicated to all that MAGA stands for."

Lara Trump has previously worked for the Republican National Committee and has been noted for her success in fundraising.

According to an analysis published in Politico, if the changes Trump is seeking in the RNC leadership are implemented, it could allow him to manage his own campaign process more efficiently.
