Trump nominates his son-in-law's father, Charles Kushner, as US Ambassador to Paris

Trump, who was re-elected as president in the US, announced in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, that he has nominated Kushner, a Jewish-American businessman and his son-in-law's father, as the Ambassador to France.

Trump stated, "I am pleased to announce Charles Kushner of New Jersey as my nomination for United States Ambassador to France. He is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker who will be a strong advocate for our country and its interests."

Noting that Kushner Companies, founded by the 70-year-old Kushner, is "one of the largest and most successful private real estate companies" in the US, Trump shared that his son-in-law's father had been appointed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, served as a commissioner and chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and held board positions at major institutions, including New York University.

Donald Trump added, "Together, we will strengthen America's partnership with France, one of our oldest and greatest allies."

Meanwhile, Trump also spoke highly of the work his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, performed during his previous term as president.

Charles Kushner was tried in 2005 on charges including tax evasion, witness tampering, and making illegal campaign contributions, and was sentenced to 2 years in prison.

Weeks before his presidency ended, on December 23, 2020, Trump issued pardons for several individuals, including Charles Kushner.

Under US law, the president has the authority to issue pardons to anyone, regardless of whether they have confessed to a crime or been found guilty by a judge.

Charles Kushner must be confirmed by the US Senate before he can begin his duties.
