Trump called the plan the "Trump dividend," stating, "If Republicans win the House and the Senate, I will give a 5,000 dollar dividend to every adult citizen in the US." The US President argued that the money should only be spent within the country, but did not share details on how this would be monitored.

There are approximately 270 million adults in the US. It is stated that if 5,000 dollars are paid to every adult, the cost of the program to the federal budget could reach approximately 1.3 trillion dollars. In his speech, Trump did not announce a concrete plan regarding which source would cover an expenditure of this magnitude.

Vice President JD Vance pointed to the revenues obtained from customs tariffs following the promise. Arguing that the Trump administration has generated high income thanks to the tariffs applied to foreign companies and countries, Vance suggested that this source could be used for a "dividend for American workers."

Democrats, on the other hand, described Trump's statement as an "empty promise." For the plan to be implemented, federal expenditures must be approved by Congress. Trump did not provide information on how he plans to receive support from Congress for the potential payment program.
