According to reports in the US press, the possibility of the US military launching an attack on Iran has increased.
In a report by the US-based news platform Axios, citing unnamed sources, it was argued that the US is "closer to a major war with Iran in the Middle East than most Americans realize, and that it could begin very soon."
The report, which claimed that "a US military operation against Iran could be large, last for weeks, and be full-scale," alleged that this attack would likely be a "joint US-Israeli operation."
Reports on US television networks CNN and CBS News stated that the US military is prepared to attack Iran by the weekend, but that US President Donald Trump has not yet made a decision.
Israel's state television channel KAN featured a statement from Israeli Army Spokesperson Effie Defrin, who said the army is "in a state of full readiness for the possibility of a US attack on Iran in the near future and that Israel will respond strongly if it is attacked."
According to KAN, the Israeli army has raised its alert level on the northern border with Lebanon due to the possibility of a US attack on Iran, in anticipation of a potential escalation with Hezbollah.
