Trump sends message regarding assassination attempt: 'I will never surrender'

An armed attack was carried out against Donald Trump in the US state of Florida while he was playing golf. Trump's team announced that the presidential candidate is safe and well. Trump released a press statement saying he would 'continue to fight.'

In a statement regarding the suspicious assassination attempt against him, the Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump said, 'I will never slow down. I will never surrender.'

In his first statement following the incident, Trump said:

'There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I am safe and well.'

FBI LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION

The FBI announced that it has launched an investigation into the suspected assassination attempt.

While multiple shots fired while Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump was playing golf in Florida have raised new concerns about an assassination, details about the incident have begun to emerge.

In a statement from the FBI, it was noted that the investigation into the matter is ongoing, stating, 'The FBI has responded to West Palm Beach, Florida, and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump.'

West Palm Beach Sheriff Ric Bradshaw shared details about the suspicious attempted attack with the public.

Stating that the Secret Service detected a suspect with a rifle in the bushes around the Trump International Golf Club at 1:30 PM, Bradshaw reported that shots were fired at the suspect, who was pointing a rifle barrel with a scope through the fence onto the course.

Bradshaw stated that the suspect, who was 300 to 500 meters away from Trump, then dropped his weapon and fled by car, noting that the individual had 2 backpacks and an action camera with him during the incident.

SUSPECT APPREHENDED

Regional Sheriff Bradshaw reported that the suspect was caught thanks to eyewitnesses.

Stating that the suspect was caught thanks to the help of eyewitnesses, Bradshaw said, 'It was great to find a witness who came to us and said, "Hey, I saw the guy running out of the bushes, he jumped into a black Nissan. I took a picture of the vehicle and the license plate."'

Bradshaw stated that law enforcement then located the vehicle heading north on the I-95 highway in Martin County, a district north of Palm Beach, and that the suspect was taken into custody.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder also announced that the suspect did not have a weapon on him when he was apprehended. It was reported that the name of the detained suspect is Ryan Wesley Routh and that he was identified by eyewitnesses.

In a statement on his own website, Trump said:

'I am safe and well, and no one was hurt. Thank God! There are people in this world who will do whatever it takes to stop us. I will not stop fighting for you. I will never surrender.'

'TRUMP WAS IN GOOD SPIRITS AFTER THE ATTACK'

J.D. Vance, whom Trump nominated as his vice-presidential running mate, wrote in a statement regarding the attack that Trump was 'surprisingly upbeat' after the incident.

Trump's vice-presidential candidate JD Vance also stated on the social media platform X, 'I am glad that President Trump is safe. I spoke to him before the news became public, and he was surprisingly upbeat.'

Vance said, 'There is still a lot we don't know, but I will be hugging my kids a little tighter tonight and saying a prayer of gratitude.'

BIDEN BRIEFED ON THE ATTACK

In a written statement from the White House, it was stated that US President Joe Biden and US Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the incident.

The statement said, 'They were relieved to know that Trump is safe.'

Harris also stated on the social media platform X, 'I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida. I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.'
