Trump speaks highly of Erdoğan again

US President Donald Trump hosted Tom Barrack, his nominee for Ambassador to Ankara, at the White House. During the meeting, Trump used positive language regarding Turkey and AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stating, "It's a good country; the leader is good too."

Ambassadors who will serve in various countries after receiving Senate confirmation gathered at a meeting held at the White House. In this context, Tom Barrack, who was nominated as the US Ambassador to Ankara, appeared before the press alongside other ambassadorial nominees.

Expressing his satisfaction with serving in the Trump administration, Barrack thanked President Trump. Making assessments about Turkey, Barrack drew attention to the country's historical and cultural depth, using the phrase "one of the most ancient civilizations."

Trump supported Barrack's remarks and praised Erdoğan.

WHO IS TOM BARRACK?

Tom Barrack, who comes from a family of Lebanese origin, was born in the US state of California. The 77-year-old Barrack completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California before receiving his law degree from the University of San Diego.

The grandson of a Christian family that immigrated to the US from the city of Zahle, Lebanon, in 1900, Barrack grew up in Culver City, Los Angeles. His father worked as a grocer and his mother as a secretary.

Interested in rugby during his youth, Barrack worked as a lawyer in Saudi Arabia. In the 1980s, he served as Deputy Undersecretary of the Interior under the Ronald Reagan administration. During the same period, he was a neighbor to the 40th US President, Reagan, at the Rancho del Cielo ranch in California.
