Trump's 'deal' remarks on the Iran crisis: 'Only they know the deadline'

US President Donald Trump answered questions from reporters during an executive order signing ceremony in the Oval Office. Assessing the ongoing contacts with Iran, Trump stated that the Tehran administration is leaning toward a deal but that he would not announce a definitive deadline for it.

Responding to a reporter's question, "Are you giving Iran a deadline to reach a deal?" Trump said, "Only they know that."

Trump noted that the Iranian side is closely following the course of the negotiation process and that Washington is continuing its policy of pressure.

"The navy is on the move"

In his speech, Trump also drew attention to military preparations regarding Iran. Stating that there is a large naval fleet moving toward Iran, Trump said, "Actually, we are sending more ships to Iran, a fleet larger than the one in Venezuela."

Trump emphasized that this military movement is not a preference but could be used if deemed necessary, stating, "I hope we make a deal. That would be good. If we don't make a deal, we'll see what happens."

"Iran wants to make a deal"

Despite all these developments, US President Trump argued that Iran has not completely walked away from the table. "I can say this, they want to make a deal," said Trump, pointing out that negotiations are continuing. Trump emphasized that if a deal is reached, regional tension could decrease, but that this depends on the steps Iran takes.

"I stopped 837 people from being hanged"

Claiming that human rights violations occurred during the violent protests in Iran, Trump argued that he prevented the execution of hundreds of people in Iran last week. Trump stated, "I stopped 837 people from being hanged last week. Everything was ready. I told them that if they did this, they would pay a price that no one had ever paid before, and they backed down." Trump noted that they know many people have lost their lives in Iran and that the process is being closely monitored.

"We are making our military bigger and stronger than ever before"

Continuing his speech, Trump touched upon the US military capacity, stating that they possess the world's most powerful military and said, "We have the most powerful ships in the world. We rebuilt our military and now we are making it bigger and stronger than ever before." Trump expressed that this power is intended for deterrence rather than as a threat.

"We are very close to a Russia-Ukraine deal"

In his speech in the Oval Office, US President Trump also made statements regarding a Russia-Ukraine deal. Trump said, "Zelenskyy and Putin hate each other, and that makes the situation very difficult. But I think we are very close to a deal. Thousands of people, mostly soldiers, have been killed. I think we have a high chance of reaching a deal."
