Trump's first statement on talks with Iran: Will there be a new meeting?

US President Donald Trump answered questions from journalists on his plane during his flight from Washington to Florida. Evaluating the indirect talks between the US and Iran held in Oman, Trump said the process is progressing beyond expectations.

Trump expressed his views on the contacts, saying, "We have had very good talks. Iran seems very willing to make a deal. We have to see what the content of this deal will be, but I think Iran really wants to make a deal. That is what should happen anyway." Recalling that Iran had kept its distance from an agreement in the past, Trump stated, "But I think they feel differently now. We will see how the deal turns out. This time will be different from the last one."

Emphasizing that the military option is still on the table, Trump said, "We have a large navy moving toward that region. A large fleet is on its way and will be there very soon. We will all see how this process turns out."

“WE WILL MEET AGAIN EARLY NEXT WEEK”

When asked how long they would wait for a possible deal with Iran, Trump said they were not acting in a rush. Recalling the Venezuela example, Trump said, "If you remember, we waited for a while in Venezuela too. We are in no hurry. We are having very good talks with Iran. We have similarly good contacts with Russia and Ukraine. We are having intense and productive meetings."

Trump stated that the latest contact with Iran went positively, saying, "We will meet again early next week. Iran wants to make a deal. They should want to anyway. They know the consequences will be severe if they don't make a deal. We had a very good meeting with a very high-level representative from Iran. We will all see how the process turns out."

“NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS”

When asked if an agreement covering only the nuclear program would be sufficient, Trump replied, "Yes, that would be acceptable. But there is a clear condition from the very beginning: No nuclear weapons." Arguing that Iran is displaying a more conciliatory attitude compared to previous periods, Trump assessed, "Now they are willing. They are even much more willing than they were a year or a year and a half ago."

RESPONSE TO OBAMA POST

Trump also spoke about the criticisms regarding a video shared on his Truth Social account, which depicted former US President Barack Obama and his wife as monkeys. Claiming he did not see the entire post, Trump said, "It was about voter fraud in Georgia. There were a lot of irregularities in the 2020 election. I didn't see the whole thing. I think there was something in the last part that people didn't like. I wouldn't have liked it either, but I didn't see it."

Stating that the post was made by a staff member, Trump said, "I only looked at the first part and it was really about voter fraud and how rigged and terrible the machines were. Normally they check the whole thing, but I think someone posted it without checking. We removed it as soon as we noticed. Still, this was a matter of voter fraud that no one wants to talk about. They don't like to talk about this subject. We removed the post as soon as we learned about it."

“I DID NOT MAKE A MISTAKE”

Trump gave a clear answer when asked if he would apologize to the Democrats for the incident. "No, I did not make a mistake. I look at thousands of things. I looked at the beginning of this one, and it was fine," said Trump, arguing that the post gave the impression that different content had been added later.

Trump concluded his statement by saying, "That single post looked like it had been added later. Also, many people were involved. I think it was an adaptation inspired by The Lion King. It was a very harsh post about voter fraud. No one knew the last part was there. If they had looked at the whole thing, they would have seen it and probably would have removed it. But as I said, it was a post adapted from The Lion King, and many people were involved in different positions."
