A new military cooperation agreement signed between Ankara and Abuja envisions the implementation of a comprehensive training base in Nigeria and a close partnership in the defense industry.

This strategic agreement was reached during bilateral talks between Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa and Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler on the sidelines of the 2026 Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
The agreement reached by the two countries' defense officials includes the sharing of defense technologies and joint industrial projects, in addition to military training. According to a statement from Nigerian Ministry of Defence officials, the facility will serve as a focal point for training and capacity building in the long term.
Land allocation for the permanent facility in a suitable coastal region of Nigeria has been completed. A temporary area will also be prepared to ensure that training begins without delay.
''UAV AND COUNTER-TERRORISM TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED''
According to the agreement, personnel from the Nigerian Armed Forces will receive training in critical areas such as special forces operations, counter-terrorism, intelligence integration, and countermeasures against unmanned aerial vehicles. The program also includes defense against improvised explosive devices and preparations for United Nations missions.
The official statement issued by the Nigerian Ministry of Defence included the following: “Turkey has proposed structured and scalable training programs for the Nigerian armed forces, including special forces operations, counter-terrorism, and intelligence integration. Additionally, operations against unmanned aerial vehicles and pre-deployment training for United Nations missions have also been included in this process.”
Another point agreed upon is the initial dispatch of a Nigerian military group to Turkey, where the personnel will also receive Turkish language training.
