Turkish Airlines' Tehran office closed over 'hijab violation'

Turkish Airlines' office in the Iranian capital, Tehran, has been closed. Reports in the Iranian press announced that the THY office was closed last Monday on the grounds that some female employees did not comply with mandatory hijab rules. The report stated that after Iranian police arrived at the THY office, the refusal of the Iranian national employees to wear headscarves and their resistance to the police led to the closure of the office.

While there has been no statement from Turkish Airlines regarding the incident yet, Tehran Prosecutor Ali Salehi, when asked whether a court order had been issued for the sealing of the THY office, stated, "No court order has been issued regarding this incident."

OFFICE REOPENED

Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi responded to a question directed at him regarding the closure of the THY office following a government meeting. Vahidi stated, "I had no information about this issue and saw the incident in the press. It was later reported that the office was closed due to an argument between the police and the employees. The seal was removed today."
