Two consecutive earthquakes in Japan! 5 buildings collapsed

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), a magnitude 6 earthquake occurred in the city of Suzu, off the coast of the northeast of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa.

The agency updated the magnitude from its initial estimate of 5.9 to 6.

No tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake, which was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers at 06:31 local time.

A second earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 was recorded in the same region at 06:40 local time.

5 BUILDINGS COLLAPSED

According to the Ishikawa Prefectural Government, 5 buildings collapsed in the city of Wajima, located on the Noto Peninsula, due to the earthquakes.

Local administrative units reported that there were no fatalities in the earthquakes.

The tremors were felt across Ishikawa and in neighboring prefectures, including Fukui and Niigata.

No abnormalities were detected at the Shika Nuclear Power Plant in Ishikawa or the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant in Niigata.

According to a statement from East Japan Railway, high-speed train services on the Hokuriku and Joetsu lines were temporarily suspended due to the earthquakes.

The JMA announced that aftershocks could continue in the region for a week.
