UK Foreign Secretary Lammy: It deprives Gazans of human dignity

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy criticized Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip and its use of starvation as a weapon. In his speech to the British Parliament, Lammy targeted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government and the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), supported by the US and Israel, stating, "Israel's new aid system is inhumane, dangerous, and deprives Gazans of human dignity."

The British minister also described the GHF's limited and insufficient humanitarian aid efforts as "a horrific sight that is causing a terrible humanitarian cost." Foreign Secretary Lammy asked, "The Israeli government must answer the question of how attacks targeting hungry and desperate children can be justified in military terms. What steps are they taking to stop this scene of horror, and what will they do to hold those responsible accountable?"

"WANTS TO ELIMINATE TWO-STATE SOLUTION PLANS"

Pointing out that 82 percent of the Israeli public supports a ceasefire with Hamas, Lammy said, "I think the Netanyahu government should listen to its people who want a ceasefire. I firmly believe that the actions of the Israeli government are damaging Israel's image in the international community beyond words and are undermining Israel's long-term security. These attacks pose a serious danger to them, yet Netanyahu insists on continuing. The radical ideology of the Netanyahu government wants to eliminate plans for a two-state solution."

"IT MUST BE THE LAST CEASEFIRE"

Describing Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz's ideas regarding the forced relocation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to the city of Rafah as "a cruel plan that should never happen," Lammy said, "The war in Gaza must end now. There is no military solution to this. Reconciliation dialogues will ensure the safety of the hostages. There is no point in more bloodshed. Hamas and Israel must declare an immediate ceasefire, and the next ceasefire must be the final one."

Criticizing the unruly behavior of Israeli settlers and their attacks on Palestinians, Lammy added, "Settler violence, even settler terrorism, is at shocking levels."

"THE UK WILL STAND WITH EGYPT"

Stating that Israel should support the Palestinian Authority, the British Minister noted that the UK will stand with Egypt to lead on humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts at the Two-State Solution Conference to be held at the United Nations (UN) later this month.

Touching upon the clashes in the Syrian city of As-Suwayda, Lammy said, "The violence in As-Suwayda must be investigated and those responsible must be held accountable. A stable Syria is in the UK's national interest and is important for counter-terrorism, irregular migration, and regional stability."
