In a written statement from the UK Ministry of Defence, it was stated that since October 7, the government has been working with its partners in the region to ensure the release of hostages, including British citizens.
Noting that the safety of its citizens is "the UK's highest priority," the statement included the following regarding the intelligence support:
"The UK Ministry of Defence will conduct surveillance flights over the Eastern Mediterranean, including operating in airspace over Israel and Gaza, to support ongoing hostage rescue activity.
Surveillance aircraft will be unarmed, do not have a combat role, and will be tasked solely with locating hostages.
Only information relating to hostage rescue will be passed to the relevant authorities responsible for hostage rescue."
