David Lammy stated that sensitive discussions are ongoing with the White House to allow Ukraine to use 'Storm Shadow' missiles inside Russia, arguing that these are times requiring 'courage.' Lammy also spoke about the future of the war, pointing to the year 2026.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Lammy visited the US president at the White House last week. The purpose of the visit was to persuade the US to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russia. However, the disagreement between the two countries could not be resolved during this meeting.

WILL THE WAR CONTINUE IN 2025?
Speaking at an event held at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, Lammy said that the challenges of the war in Ukraine would 'deepen and harden even further,' particularly from 'late 2025 into 2026' and beyond.
In his speech, Lammy said, 'This is why it is a critical time for us to show courage, patience, and fortitude on behalf of our allies who stand with Ukraine.' Lammy also used the phrase, 'A deeper and tougher war awaits us.'
The Guardian newspaper wrote that the speech 'appears to be aimed at a hesitant White House, which is concerned' about the risks of allowing Storm Shadow missiles to be used to attack Russia.

UK WANTS TO 'HELP UKRAINE MORE'
Lammy emphasized that Ukraine and its Western allies are discussing 'what more might be necessary' to help Kyiv on the battlefield, beyond trying to hold the front line which is under intense pressure in the east.
'As foreign secretary, of course, I will not comment on operational details because that could only help Putin,' Lammy said, concluding his remarks by stating, 'However, there is a very real-time discussion among allies about how we can support Ukraine as we head into winter.'
