Uganda Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has demanded an apology from the US ambassador to the country.
General Kainerugaba issued an ultimatum to US Ambassador William Popp. According to local media, the Chief of Defence Forces stated that if Popp does not apologize by tomorrow morning, he must leave the country.
Kainerugaba, who is the son of President Yoweri Museveni, did not provide details on why he expects an apology from Popp, but argued that the US envoy has been undermining the government.
Kainerugaba later deleted a social media post in which he accused the US ambassador of disrespecting the Ugandan leader.
It is unknown whether the tension between Kainerugaba and the US ambassador stems from a personal grievance. The US embassy also stated that it was surprised by the Ugandan Chief of Defence Forces' demand.
