UN General Assembly adopts Gaza ceasefire resolution

The United Nations (UN) General Assembly has adopted a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the allowance of humanitarian aid through borders, with 149 votes in favor and 12 against.

The resolution adopted by the General Assembly includes a call for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution also calls on member states to take all necessary steps to ensure that Israel complies with international law and the UN Charter.

The resolution, which was supported by 149 countries including Turkey, was opposed by the US, Argentina, Fiji, Hungary, Israel, Micronesia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Tonga, and Tuvalu.

19 countries abstained from the vote.
