UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk spoke at the opening of the European Parliament High-Level Conference on Human Rights.

The conference began with a delay after a group of protesters chanted slogans of "ceasefire in Gaza now" and "stop the genocide".

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, noting that a "humanitarian pause" was reached in the conflict as a result of the agreement between Israel and Hamas, stated that this situation provided some relief to civilians and that some families were reunited with their loved ones after a long time.

Türk stated, "Access to humanitarian aid must be provided throughout Gaza and it must be sustainable. I call on everyone with influence (in Gaza) to extend the ceasefire for human rights and humanitarian reasons."
