UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made statements regarding the rising tension in the Middle East resulting from the attacks by the US and Israel against Iran and the retaliatory actions by the Tehran administration.
In his remarks to the press, Guterres said that the conflicts in the region are "spiraling out of control" and that "the world is on the brink of a wider war."
Calling on the US and Israel to end their operations against Iran, Guterres emphasized that Iran must also stop its attacks on neighboring countries that are not part of the conflict.
Guterres stated, "It is time for the US and Israel to end the war they are waging against Iran."
Pointing out that the tension in the region must not escalate further and that disputes should be resolved through diplomatic channels, the UN Secretary-General said, "It is time to stop climbing the ladder of escalation and start climbing the ladder of diplomacy, and to fully respect international law once again."
