US and Russia were set to discuss peace: UK delivers newly developed missile system to Ukraine
While it was announced that peace talks would be held between the US and Russia to end the Ukraine War, it has been reported that the UK has been shipping weapons to Ukraine. Gravehawk air defense systems, developed through a partnership between Denmark and the UK, were supplied to Ukraine last week. Experts who developed the system noted that the Greyhawk can be transported inside standard shipping containers and deployed covertly. The UK Ministry of Defence criticized the peace negotiations that the US announced it would initiate with Russia, pointing out that bringing 'peace through strength' should be the fundamental strategy applied against Russia. The shipment was made following this statement by the UK.
The UK Ministry of Defence announced that two Gravehawk units have been sent to Ukraine and are being used actively. It was stated that 15 more deliveries are planned within the year. The US has underscored its desire to end the war within this year. No statement has been made by the US regarding the UK's weapons shipment.
The system will allow Ukraine to modernize and utilize its existing missile stocks. Gravehawk integrates Soviet-developed R-73 missiles onto a modern ground platform. A large portion of Ukraine's missile arsenal consisted of weapons remaining from the Soviet era.
WILL THE UK SABOTAGE PEACE TALKS?
Evaluating the war in Ukraine for 12punto, political scientist and author Onur Sinan Güzaltan suggested that 'Atlantic Forces,' led by the UK, could sabotage the peace process.
Pointing out that Russia has not been affected by sanctions, Güzaltan made the following assessment:
''It must be underlined that this is a process very open to provocations. Because no matter how much Trump is elected President of the American state, his influence and power are still debated. In other words, there are many problems within the US. It is not clear what the future of Zelensky will be in Ukraine. Zelensky and those around him may engage in provocations against peace talks.
There are many forces in Europe that do not want normalization between Russia and the United States, first and foremost the UK. Provocations from them may come again. However, as I have stated, I can say that the face-to-face meeting between Putin and Trump, which is said to be held in Saudi Arabia, is now finalized unless there is a very big surprise.''
WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF THE GRAVEHAWK SYSTEM?
Gravehawk was developed by Taskforce Kindred, a special unit of the UK Ministry of Defence focused on military innovation. The project was completed in 12 months, and each unit cost approximately 1.2 million dollars. Denmark also provided funding to British firms as a partner in the project.
North Korea recently sent rocket launcher systems disguised as civilian vehicles to Russia. These systems provide reinforcements to Russia's rocket units. It is noteworthy that both countries are supplying such covert and modernized systems to their allies.
