US aviation authority suspends flights for 1 month
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that flights from the US to Haiti have been suspended for 30 days following an incident where a Spirit Airlines passenger plane was fired upon by individuals believed to be members of an armed gang.

The FAA issued a statement regarding the incident in which a passenger plane flying from California to Port-au-Prince was fired upon during its approach.
The statement noted that all US airline flights to Haiti have been suspended for 1 month due to "the ongoing instability in the security situation and other safety risks."
PASSENGER PLANE WAS TARGETED BY GUNFIRE
Spirit Airlines flight 951, traveling from the US state of California to Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, was targeted yesterday by gunfire from individuals believed to be members of an armed gang. The plane made a safe landing at Santiago Airport in the Dominican Republic.
A Spirit Airlines spokesperson stated that the aircraft was taken out of service due to minor damage caused by bullets, and that only one flight attendant sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Violence is increasing day by day in the country, where armed gangs control 80 percent of the capital, Port-au-Prince. According to the United Nations (UN) Integrated Office in Haiti, 3,900 people have been killed as a result of attacks by armed gangs since the beginning of 2024, with 1,374 of those deaths occurring in the last 6 months.
