US Department of Justice fires several employees involved in Trump investigation
The US Department of Justice has announced that it has terminated the employment of several staff members who were involved in criminal investigations into US President Donald Trump.

The department announced that several prosecutors who were part of former Special Counsel Jack Smith's team have been fired.
Although the names of those whose employment was terminated as a result of the decision have not yet been disclosed, a Department of Justice official speaking on condition of anonymity confirmed that the dismissals were carried out by Acting Deputy Attorney General James McHenry.
Speaking to Fox News, a Department of Justice official said, "Today, Acting Deputy Attorney General James McHenry terminated the employment of some Department of Justice officials who played a significant role in the prosecution of Trump."
Former Special Counsel Jack Smith had filed a lawsuit against Trump in June 2023 on 37 separate charges, alleging that he had kept classified government documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida at the end of his first presidential term.
In the case, Trump's aide Walt Nauta and Mar-a-Lago employee Carlos De Oliveira were also charged alongside Trump, while Trump had denied all allegations against him.
Judge Cannon, who presided over the case, dismissed the lawsuit in July 2024 upon Trump's objection, citing that the appointment of Smith, who conducted the investigation, was unconstitutional; Smith subsequently halted the investigation following Trump's victory in the November 5, 2024, presidential election.
