According to two US officials who spoke to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the US is increasing its troop presence in the Middle East.

The two officials alleged that, following Iran's increased attacks on the Strait of Hormuz, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth approved the deployment of a Marine expeditionary unit to the Middle East.

Stating that the request came from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the officials provided information that the Marine unit consists of approximately 2,500 troops.

While it was reported that a Pentagon spokesperson declined to comment on this claim, it was emphasized that this move coincides with the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which could disrupt the global economy, drive up gasoline prices, and create a major political challenge for President Donald Trump.
