The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) issued a statement regarding the State Department's "determination" to approve a potential sale.

The statement noted that the total cost of the sale for the spare parts, repairs, and reshipment of military equipment to be provided to Taiwan is 228 million dollars.

Pointing out that the potential sale in question "will help maintain political stability, military balance, and economic progress in the region," the statement conveyed that the sale would enhance Taiwan's ability to cope with current and future threats.
