The official reiterated Washington's commitment to the 20-point peace plan that formed the basis for US President Donald Trump's efforts to secure a ceasefire in the region last year.

When asked about Israeli Minister Katz's statement that the only "solution" to the crisis in Gaza is to depopulate the region, the US official pointed to Article 12 of Trump's plan. The official stated, "As clearly stated in Article 12 of the President's plan, no one will be forced to leave Gaza. Those who wish to leave will be able to do so freely and will have the freedom to return. We will encourage people to stay in Gaza and offer them the opportunity to build a better Gaza."
