US President Joe Biden uses pardon power for his son Hunter Biden, who is accused of tax evasion

US President Joe Biden, contrary to his previous promise, has pardoned his son Hunter Biden, who was accused of tax evasion and illegal possession of a firearm.

US President Biden issued a written statement sharing the reasons for using his pardon power for his son, Hunter Biden, with the American public.

Recalling his previous promise not to interfere with the Department of Justice's work, Biden stated that he had tried to keep his word but argued that Republicans had "politicized" the process against him.

Joe Biden stated, "Today, I signed a pardon for my son, Hunter. From the day I took office, I said that I would not interfere with the decision-making of the Justice Department, and I have kept my word even as I watched my son being unfairly prosecuted. They tried to break Hunter, and in doing so, they tried to break me. Enough is enough."

Arguing that Republicans in the US Congress had done everything to use the case against him and had gone beyond the bounds of justice, Biden claimed that the case against Hunter had been turned into a matter of "political revenge."

In his statement, Biden assessed, "I believe in the justice system, but as I grapple with this, I also believe that raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a president would come to this decision."

HUNTER BIDEN IS ACCUSED OF TAX EVASION

Hunter Biden is accused of evading 1.4 million dollars in taxes in California by the office of special counsel David Weiss, who was appointed by the Department of Justice to investigate the allegations against him.

The indictment states that Biden, who faces 9 tax charges, including 3 felonies, did not pay 1.4 million dollars in federal taxes in 2017 and 2018 and evaded taxes by filing fraudulent tax returns.

Biden is accused of spending his money on luxury cars, extravagant hotels, drugs, and prostitutes instead of paying his taxes on time.

Reports last July indicated that Biden had reached a plea deal with prosecutors regarding the allegations, but the agreement could not be finalized as the parties could not agree on the details.

Republicans in the US Congress criticize Hunter Biden for using his father's political position to profit from foreign business dealings, and they criticize the Department of Justice for improperly slowing down investigations into Hunter Biden's tax crimes.

Biden, for his part, had denied all the accusations against him.

On the other hand, Biden was found guilty by a jury on June 11 on 3 charges in the indictment as a result of the trial in another federal case opened against him in the state of Delaware regarding the illegal acquisition of a firearm.

The jury members ruled that the US President's son was guilty of lying to a federally licensed gun dealer, making a false statement on the application form that he was not a drug user, and illegally possessing the weapon for 11 days.

For the first time in US history, the son of a sitting president had appeared in court and been found guilty due to charges against him.
