US President Trump: 'Signing process could be completed in a few days'

US President Donald Trump made statements regarding the new agreement reached with Iran on its nuclear weapons program during a press conference in Washington. President Trump stated that the details of the agreement have been largely finalized and that they expect the historic signing to take place in Europe. "The straits will open to trade the moment we sign. The agreement ceremony will likely take place on Saturday or Monday. Negotiations are progressing faster than expected," he said, expressing that they are nearing the end of the talks.

Reporting that US stock markets have risen and oil prices have declined following the latest developments, Trump said, "We have decided that we will absolutely not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon. Actually, that was our goal from the very beginning. Therefore, this is a very valuable development globally."

Trump noted that he held phone calls with many world leaders during the agreement process, primarily Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the leaders of Gulf countries. Stating that contacts with Turkey will also begin shortly, Trump said, "President Erdoğan was wonderful. Pakistan's contribution was also quite significant."

The US President expressed his hope that the agreement to be signed will increase stability in the Middle East, stating, "The whole region is peaceful. There are even positive echoes beyond the Middle East. The straits will also be opened to everyone immediately after the agreement," he said.

Trump also shared for the first time that the US Navy has been quietly passing dozens of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz without Iran's knowledge recently. "For the last month, we have been moving large ships at night. Iran didn't know what was happening because their radars were disabled. No one knew that some nights 25 ships and some nights 15 ships were passing," he said.

Stating that Vice President JD Vance will lead the delegation in his place at the upcoming signing ceremony, Trump shared the information that Iran's supreme leader has given approval to the agreement in principle. Trump also stated that US sanctions will be lifted once the agreement begins to be implemented and that there will be a sharp drop in oil prices.

Regarding the negotiations on the nuclear program, President Trump said, "Yes, we have reached a full agreement in principle. The nuclear materials are already stored in places that are almost inaccessible. We are determined that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons, and we have agreed on this. They will not have nuclear weapons now or in the future."

When asked why Iran is so willing to sign this agreement now, Trump made the following assessment: "Because they paid a heavy price. They realized they could no longer withstand the pressure and had to come to the table. We were insistent on the terms we wanted; they want this agreement much more than we do."

The US President argued that the agreement reached would be beneficial not only for the US and the Middle East but also for the Iranian people. "Finally, Iran will have the chance to rebuild its own country. Actually, this situation also means a change in terms of administrators. Old leaders are leaving their places to more reasonable people, and the current leadership team has approved this agreement," he said.

Responding to journalists' questions about whether "Iran might be stalling the US," Trump replied, "They were less willing at the beginning. But the tough interventions we have applied over the last three days have brought them to this position. They are no longer in a position to respond with military, naval, and air power. We clearly communicated what we would do."

Trump continued regarding the agreement: "The straits will open to trade in about two days. We expect this agreement to be implemented quickly and completely. We have options for Saturday or Monday for the ceremony." Furthermore, regarding the course of the negotiations, he said, "Actually, the straits had been effectively open for months, but no one was aware of it. The US will strengthen economic cooperation with regional countries again."

Reminding that the US has more than compensated for the cost of the military process it experienced with Venezuela, particularly through oil trade, Trump said he expects similar economic gains regarding Iran.

When reminded that American farmers are struggling due to the rise in fertilizer prices, Trump stated that they would provide support in this regard and that he expects energy costs, and therefore agricultural expenses, to fall once the agreement is completed. Trump stated, "Fertilizer prices and fuel will be much lower than they were four or five months ago."

Trump concluded his remarks as follows: "If you don't want to see a real catastrophe, it is essential not to allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. I believe that after the agreement, we will enter a much better period for both our countries and the region."
