In the US, as the ongoing primary elections continue, US President Joe Biden has reached the number of delegates required to become the Democratic nominee, while former president Donald Trump has also secured the number of delegates needed to be nominated at the Republican convention.
Both parties continued their primary elections in the states of Georgia, Washington, and Mississippi.
Following the withdrawal of his rival Nikki Haley from the race last week, Donald Trump remained the only candidate competing for the Republican nomination in the primaries. Joe Biden, meanwhile, was unopposed among the Democrats.
Despite calls for boycott votes against him, Joe Biden received 85 percent of the vote in Washington, 95 percent in Georgia, and 98 percent in Mississippi. Having succeeded in surpassing the 1,968 delegates required for the nomination, Biden's candidacy will be finalized at the Democratic convention to be held in August.
In the Republican primaries, Donald Trump received 73 percent of the vote in Washington, 85 percent in Georgia, and 92 percent in Mississippi. With these results, Trump managed to exceed the 1,215 delegates required to be the nominee at the Republican convention. The Republican convention, which will make the final decision regarding Trump's candidacy, will be held in July.
