US senators threaten Turkey with 'sanctions': 'If you don't accept, we will implement them'

US senators have issued an arrogant threat to Turkey regarding Syria. CNN Türk Washington Representative Yunus Paksoy reported the latest developments during a live broadcast.

He stated that the senators warned that Turkey's actions threaten the critical mission of preventing the resurgence of ISIS. He quoted them as saying, "If Turkey does not immediately accept the ceasefire proposal, we will introduce a sanctions bill this week."

JOINT STATEMENT FROM SENATORS

Paksoy continued: "Democrat Chris Van Hollen and Republican Lindsey Graham released a joint statement. They are saying they will introduce a bipartisan sanctions bill. This is a very clear and explicit threat from these American senators. They say that if Turkey does not accept the ceasefire terms, we will bring the sanctions bill to Congress. So, what are the details of this statement? What exactly do they want from Turkey? What are they trying to force Turkey to accept here?"

THEY SPOKE WITH PKK TERRORIST LEADER MAZLUM ABDI

"They claim that Turkish-backed forces are threatening the mission to prevent the resurgence of ISIS once again by increasing attacks on our Syrian Kurdish partners—here they are referring to the YPG, the PKK terrorist organization. They claim that the temporary ceasefire between the Syrian National Army and the YPG/PKK has ended, that Turkey has refused to extend this ceasefire, and that a demilitarized zone has not been accepted in what they call Kobani, in Ayn al-Arab, and that region. They say if Turkey does not accept this, they will bring this sanctions package to Congress for a vote this week. They also add that while Turkey may have some legitimate security concerns that could be addressed, these developments undermine regional security and the US cannot remain indifferent to this."

"Two US senators spoke on the phone with YPG/PKK terrorist leader Mazlum Abdi, and in a sense, Mazlum Abdi cried to these senators on the phone, saying 'they are attacking us, they are not stopping the attacks, they are not accepting our ceasefire proposal, please help us.' Because the statement says, 'We spoke by phone and reiterated our support for our Syrian Kurdish partners; if Turkey does not immediately accept these terms—I am underlining this—if Turkey does not immediately accept these, we will introduce a bipartisan sanctions bill to Congress this week, similar to the bill we jointly introduced in 2019.'"

"IF YOU DON'T ACCEPT, WE WILL IMPOSE SANCTIONS"

"They are saying they will impose sanctions on our President, our state, Turkey's arms purchases—the F-16 issue might also come up, for which we have already paid—and on all defense industry imports and exports. The reason is the operations conducted against the YPG/PKK. I have been reporting for a while that Congress would inevitably get involved, just like in 2019. I have repeatedly underlined that it feels like we are living through the same movie again, and that Congress would support the terrorist organization here. We have now seen the clearest example and the clearest statement of this. We don't know if they will actually put this into action, if they will really table this sanctions bill, but we can clearly see that there is a 'waving of the stick' and a 'wagging of the finger' at Turkey, because these two Democratic and Republican senators are saying, 'Immediately accept the terrorist organization's demands, or we will impose sanctions on you.'"
