OPERATION HAWKEYE STRIKE UNDERWAY
The statement indicated that the strikes in question were part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which was launched on December 19 in response to an ISIS attack on US and Syrian forces in the Tadmur (Palmyra) region of Syria on December 13.
CENTCOM: OUR COMMITMENT CONTINUES
The CENTCOM statement included the following: "Today's strikes targeted ISIS across Syria as part of our ongoing efforts to eliminate radical terrorism directed at our warfighters, prevent future attacks, and protect American and allied forces in the region. The US and coalition forces remain committed to pursuing terrorists who seek to harm the US."
MESSAGE: "WE WILL FIND YOU WHEREVER YOU ARE"
Emphasizing that the US military will continue its operations against security threats, the statement said: "Our message remains strong: If you harm our warfighters, no matter how hard you try to evade justice, we will find you anywhere in the world and kill you."
