The US Treasury Department issued a statement regarding the executive order signed today by President Donald Trump that terminates sanctions on Syria.

The statement noted that today's executive order revokes previous decisions that imposed comprehensive sanctions on Syria, while emphasizing that authorities have been expanded to maintain sanctions against individuals and entities linked to Bashar al-Assad and his supporters.

The statement reported that new sanctions have been implemented against the Assad regime and other destabilizing actors.

It was noted that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has removed 518 individuals and entities from the sanctions list, and the statement emphasized that this step aims to lift financial restrictions on actors deemed critical for Syria's development, the activities of the new government, and the reconstruction of the country's social structure.

The statement also conveyed that 139 individuals and entities posing risks in the context of counter-terrorism and sanctions against Iran, or linked to the Assad regime, have been added to new sanctions lists.

In his assessment of the matter, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated, "In line with the promise made by President Trump, the steps taken today offer Syria an opportunity to reintegrate into global trade and rebuild international trust. While we continue to monitor progress on the ground, we remain focused on preventing attempts by Assad's cronies, terrorists, and other illicit actors to destabilize Syria and the region."
