Unemployment benefit claims in the US show an increase
The number of people filing for unemployment benefits for the first time in the US reached 248 thousand in the week ending June 7, exceeding expectations.

US Department of Labor data shows that unemployment benefit claims for the week ending June 7 remained steady compared to the previous week, recorded at 248 thousand. This figure is at its highest level since the first week of October 2024.
Markets had expected unemployment benefit claims to be around 242 thousand. However, the previous week's data was also revised from 247 thousand to 248 thousand.
At the end of last week, the 4-week moving average of unemployment benefit claims increased by 5 thousand 500 to 240 thousand 250. Additionally, continuing unemployment benefit claims for the week ending May 31 rose by 54 thousand to 1 million 956 thousand, reaching their highest level since November 2021.
