US Vice President Kamala Harris issued a statement following the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli strike.
Harris stated, "Hassan Nasrallah was a terrorist with American blood on his hands. Over decades, his leadership of Hezbollah destabilized the Middle East and led to the killing of countless innocent people in Lebanon, Israel, Syria, and around the world.
Today, the victims of Hezbollah have received a measure of justice,” she said.
"DIPLOMACY REMAINS THE BEST PATH FOR THE REGION"
Reiterating "the United States' unwavering commitment to Israel's security," Harris said, "I will always support Israel's right to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis."
Noting that she and President Biden do not want the conflicts in the Middle East to escalate into a wider regional war, Harris stated, “We are working on a diplomatic solution along the Israel-Lebanon border so that people on both sides of the border can return to their homes safely. Diplomacy remains the best path to protect civilians and achieve lasting stability in the region.”
