The Tasnim News Agency, citing Iranian sources, announced that the negotiations will take place in Muscat, the capital of Oman. The report stated that the talks will be conducted in an indirect format and that the agenda for the negotiations will be limited to the nuclear file and the lifting of sanctions against Iran.
Talks confirmed to be held in Muscat
The ISNA News Agency also reported that it has been confirmed that the negotiations will be held in Muscat with Oman acting as a mediator. The report noted that the Iranian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and that Deputy Foreign Ministers Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi will also be part of the delegation.
Witkoff to be the chief negotiator for the US delegation
It was stated that US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, will participate in the US delegation as the chief negotiator. The report also mentioned that there is a possibility that Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, may participate in this round of talks.
Iran requested a change in location and format
Media reports had previously claimed that the planned negotiations between Iran and the US would be held in Istanbul and that the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates would be invited to these talks.
On the other hand, reports by Reuters stated that Iran had initially preferred for the talks to be held in Istanbul this week, but later requested a change in location and format, which led to the decision to hold the talks in Oman.
