Two earthquakes measuring 7.0 and 5.8 in magnitude occurred off the coast of the US state of California, and a tsunami warning was issued following the quakes.
Two earthquakes measuring 7.0 and 5.8 in magnitude occurred off the coast of the US state of California. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean, 99 kilometers off the coast of the Ferndale region of California, at 10:44 local time at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The USGS announced that another earthquake measuring 5.8 in magnitude was recorded 3 minutes after the 7.0 magnitude quake, near Cobb, approximately 68 kilometers north of the city of Santa Rosa.
TSUNAMI WAVES EXPECTED TO REACH LAND AFTER 12:00
The National Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for a 643-kilometer-long region along the US west coast, stretching from Dunes City in Oregon to San Francisco and San Jose in California.
It was announced that tsunami waves are expected to reach San Francisco at 12:10 local time.
The National Weather Service called on citizens in the coastal region to move to higher ground in inland areas.
No loss of life or property has been reported yet in the earthquake.
TSUNAMI WARNING LIFTED
The Tsunami Warning Center, affiliated with the US National Weather Service, announced that it had lifted the tsunami warning some time after its initial alert.
Officials evaluating the situation in San Francisco and Eureka, one of the regions where the earthquake was felt most strongly, stated that no loss of life or damage has been reported so far.
