President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's son, Bilal Erdoğan, traveled to the Syrian capital with a large convoy ahead of his father's planned visit to Damascus. Bilal Erdoğan performed Friday prayers at the Umayyad Mosque alongside a large delegation.
During the visit in Damascus, extensive security measures were taken by HTS police forces. Street entrances were closed, and a security perimeter was established around the convoy with long-barreled weapons.
No information was shared by the AKP or Bilal Erdoğan prior to the visit. It remains unclear whether Bilal Erdoğan will hold further meetings in Syria.
AKP DELEGATION ACCOMPANIED BILAL ERDOĞAN
The delegation accompanying Bilal Erdoğan included AKP Group Deputy Chairman Abdülhamit Gül, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin, former Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, former Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Kasapoğlu, and former Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez.
The delegation posed for a commemorative photo in front of the mosque. As part of Bilal Erdoğan's visit, the tomb of Saladin and Turkish martyrs' cemeteries were also visited.
According to reports in the Syrian press, it was stated that Bilal Erdoğan led a high-level Turkish delegation and arrived in Syria yesterday.
