Notable moments during Damascus visit: Jolani did not shake the German female minister's hand

Following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, visits continue to the administration established in the country under the leadership of HTS leader Mohammed al-Jolani (Ahmed al-Shara).

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock met with HTS leader Jolani at the Presidential Palace in the capital, Damascus.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas had announced that Barrot and Baerbock were making the visit to Syria on behalf of the EU.

BAERBOCK'S HAND WAS NOT SHAKEN

German Foreign Minister Baerbock and French Foreign Minister Barrot were welcomed in Damascus by HTS officials. The HTS members, who shook Barrot's hand, did not shake Baerbock's hand because she is a woman. Jolani, who met with the two ministers, also did not shake hands with Baerbock.
