World's oldest person Maria Branyas has passed away
Maria Branyas, known as the world's oldest person, has passed away at the age of 117.

117-year-old Maria Branyas, who was recorded as the world's oldest living person in January 2023, has passed away in the city of Olot, Spain.
Branyas' family announced in a post on their X account that the 117-year-old woman had died in Olot, Spain.
The post stated, "Maria Branyas has left us. She died as she wished: in her sleep, without pain, and in peace."
In a statement from the US-based Gerontology Research Group, it was reported that following Branyas' death, 116-year-old Japanese national Tomiko Itooka may now be the world's oldest living person.
Born in San Francisco, USA, on March 4, 1907, Branyas was named the world's oldest living person by Guinness World Records (GWR) after the death of French national Lucile Randon in January 2023 at the age of 118.
