Breaking: Özel's 'The biggest radish is at the ballot box' response to Erdoğan: 'He has resorted to political mafia tactics'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited Gezi prisoners Çiğdem Mater and Mine Özerden at Bakırköy Prison.

Responding to journalists' questions upon leaving, Özel made statements regarding the current agenda.

Özel responded to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's "The biggest radish is in the bag" remark by saying, "He is threatening us. We can only say this to him: If these radishes are being judged by their size and the anxiety increases as they grow, the biggest radish is at the ballot box, Mr. Erdoğan. If you are not afraid, come to the ballot box, and you will see whether the biggest radish is there or not."

Özel stated the following:

"Today is their 999th day inside. Yesterday was the 1,000th day of the Boğaziçi protests. Tomorrow is the 1,000th day for our friends imprisoned in the Gezi case. Seven years have passed for Mr. Kavala.

Tomorrow is also the anniversary of the murder of Hrant Dink. The country has reached a state where one day cannot contain just one tragedy. Every day we wake up to the anniversaries of different disasters or find ourselves on a significant day.

On one hand, they are trying to appoint a trustee to the Istanbul Bar Association; on the other, they are attempting a political coup through the judiciary against the will of Beşiktaş. When you look back, there is nothing left of the country that can be defended from a democratic perspective.

On the other side, Mr. Erdoğan is chasing radishes. By saying 'The biggest radish is in the bag,' claiming he has certain information but that this information will emerge within 2 years, he has resorted to political mafia tactics.

He is threatening us. We can only say this to him: If these radishes are being judged by their size and the anxiety increases as they grow, the biggest radish is at the ballot box, Mr. Erdoğan.

If you are not afraid, come to the ballot box, and you will see whether the biggest radish is there or not."

"WE WILL NOT FALL FOR YOUR GAME OF NOT FALLING FOR YOUR GAME"

Drawing attention to the injustices experienced during the Gezi trial process, Özgür Özel used the following expressions:

"We will not fall for your game, but don't get your hopes up, we will not fall for your game of not falling for your game either. You understood what I meant. The morale and health of our friends inside are very good. We are sure they will come out as upright as they were when they went in. The Gezi trial is unlawful according to the ECHR decisions that Turkey is obliged to comply with due to international agreements, according to the Constitutional Court decisions, and according to the conscience of the nation. They are lying in prison in our place. Two women are lying here on behalf of the tens of millions of women who supported Gezi. Tayfun Kahraman is a party member; he is lying in prison on my behalf."

"WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF SAVING TURKEY FROM THIS EVIL"

Sending a message to the government by addressing Erdoğan, Özel concluded his words as follows:

"We all stand by all five of them. I was at Gezi too. Their cases are our cases. The friends here have nothing to do with violence. Calculate the damage caused by Turkey becoming a country with zeroed-out democracy instead of a developing country. This has gone on too long. One must tell the person who says 'the world is bigger than 5' every time that Turkey is bigger than one person. It's not that tall of an order. We are now in a completely different process, and that process is the process of saving Turkey from this evil. He should prepare to hand over power."
