Communications Directorate responds to 'National Anthem' and 'Atatürk banner' crisis allegations
The Communications Directorate has announced that allegations claiming the 'National Anthem' would not be allowed to be played and the Turkish flag would not be allowed to be displayed at the Turkish Super Cup Final match between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe do not reflect the truth.
It was alleged that a crisis regarding the "National Anthem" and an "Atatürk banner" occurred ahead of the Turkcell Super Cup match to be played this evening in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.
It was claimed that officials from the Saudi government, who imposed the ban, told both clubs directly that they were "speaking on behalf of the King" and prohibited both the t-shirts and the banners.
The Center for Combating Disinformation, affiliated with the Presidential Communications Directorate, emphasized that the allegations claiming that 'the National Anthem and the Turkish flag will not be allowed at the Turkish Super Cup Final match' to be played between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe do not reflect the truth.
WRITTEN STATEMENT FROM THE INSTITUTION:
"The allegations appearing in some media outlets and shared on social media, stating that 'our National Anthem and the Turkish flag will not be allowed at the Turkish Super Cup Final match to be played in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia,' are not true.
Before the Super Cup match, the Turkish flag, the flags of both clubs, and the Turkcell Super Cup flag will be displayed on the field. Following the opening ceremony with light shows and a 1-minute moment of silence for our martyrs, our National Anthem will be played."
