Court requests evidence in death of high school student Ezgi Alya Yiğit: Family calls on witnesses

Court requests evidence in death of high school student Ezgi Alya Yiğit: Family calls on witnesses

Osman Sarı, the nephew of AKP Nizip Mayor Mehmet Sarı, who is being tried without arrest on charges of striking and killing high school student Ezgi Alya Yiğit with his vehicle in Antep, appeared before a judge.

According to Birgün newspaper, during the hearing held at the Gaziantep Courthouse 3rd Juvenile High Criminal Court, the court panel granted the family an additional 10 days to present evidence. The hearing was adjourned to January 29, 2024.

The Yiğit family called out to those who witnessed the day of the incident, asking them to share any camera footage with them.

CAMERA FOOTAGE IS CRITICAL

Kübra Yiğit stated the following in her statement:

''The police are not fulfilling the requests made to them in any way. The experts have prepared identical reports three times. They claim that Ezgi did not look left or right, did not yield to the vehicle, and darted into the road. However, they have no concrete evidence, and there is no camera footage. Eyewitnesses say the exact opposite. That is why the camera footage is very important to us. If anyone has any footage or recordings, we ask them to send them to us. No one's name will be involved in the file in any way. We know the footage exists, but no one is taking a step because they are afraid.''

The older sister, Yiğit, said, ''Footage from April 10 was added to the file last month, but the incident occurred on April 12. If the Police Department can access footage from April 10, how can they not access it for April 12? The police chief, police officers, and experts have been interfered with. We desperately need the footage for the sake of the case so that this person receives the heaviest sentence possible.''

On April 12 of last year, on Cemil Sait Barlas Street in Antep, she lost her life after being struck by a vehicle driven by Osman Sarı, an unlicensed driver and nephew of the AKP Nizip Mayor, while she was riding a scooter with her friend Şimal Toprak.
