Fatih Altaylı: 'I have not been summoned to testify, but I wouldn't be surprised if I were'

The Demirören News Agency announced yesterday evening that journalist Fatih Altaylı had been summoned to testify as a 'suspect' within the scope of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

It was stated that the investigation was initiated due to social media posts.

The report stated, "The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into Fatih Altaylı for 'praising a crime and a criminal' regarding his 'Well done' post on his social media account concerning E.A., who punched İsmail Aydemir, who had unfurled a 'Caliphate' flag following the 'Support for Palestine, Curse on Israel' march held in Istanbul on January 1st."

Speaking to T24, Altaylı said he had not been summoned to testify:

"I have not been summoned to testify in any way. But if I am summoned, I wouldn't be surprised. It wouldn't be the first time I've been summoned."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Following the Palestine march held on the Galata Bridge in Istanbul, a person named E.A. punched an individual who had unfurled a tawhid flag.

While E.A. was detained by the police and subsequently arrested, another person also punched E.A. in the presence of the police. However, no action has been taken yet against this person, for whom an investigation was reportedly launched.

Journalist Fatih Altaylı also wrote 'Well done' on his X account while the incident was trending on social media.
