Payments by credit card increased by 122 percent

According to data from the Interbank Card Center, the total amount of payments made with cards in September increased by 122 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 807.7 billion TL.

Payments by credit card increased by 122 percent

The Interbank Card Center (BKM) has announced its data for the month of September.

Accordingly, as of September, the number of credit cards in Turkey reached 112.7 million, the number of debit cards reached 184.4 million, and the number of prepaid cards reached 84.5 million.

NUMBER OF CARDS INCREASING: 381 MILLION

Compared to September of last year, the number of credit cards increased by 18 percent, the number of debit cards by 12 percent, and the number of prepaid cards by 28 percent. The total number of cards reached 381.6 million, an increase of 17 percent compared to the same period last year.

The total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in September increased by 122 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 807.7 billion TL. Of these card payments, 657.8 billion TL was made with credit cards, 135.8 billion TL with debit cards, and 14.1 billion TL with prepaid cards.

CONTACTLESS USAGE IS INCREASING

The growth rate for payments made with credit cards compared to the same period of the previous year was 128 percent, while it was 97 percent for payments made with debit cards and 120 percent for payments made with prepaid cards.

The total number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in September increased by 27 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1.4 billion transactions. Of these card payments, 789 million were made with credit cards, 529 million with debit cards, and 86.6 million with prepaid cards.

3 OUT OF 4 PAYMENTS ARE CONTACTLESS

The growth rate in the number of payments made with credit cards was 29 percent compared to the same period last year, while it was 25 percent for payments made with debit cards and 28 percent for payments made with prepaid cards.

Card payments made over the internet amounted to 227 billion TL. 3 out of every 4 in-store card payments were made contactlessly.
