Penalty for 500 schools over fake diplomas

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin made significant statements regarding the investigations launched into schools involved in a fake diploma scandal and those operating 'ghost classrooms.' Tekin stated that criminal proceedings have been initiated against approximately 500 schools as part of efforts to ensure transparency and justice in education.

Minister Tekin emphasized that they will continue their zero-tolerance policy against illegal practices in the education system, stating, "No school's popularity or fame can cause us to turn a blind eye to illegal actions. If necessary, we will not hesitate to impose sanctions even on the most famous schools."

Meeting with education editors in Erzurum, Tekin also touched upon plans to provide free meals in public schools.

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, Tekin said, "We are currently providing free meals to students in the earthquake zone and those under the scope of bused education. We are evaluating the necessary infrastructure and resources to provide meals to all our students."

Furthermore, providing information regarding the arrangements for approximately 10 thousand students who were victimized due to the cancellation of a question in the High School Entrance System (LGS) exam, Tekin announced that students whose scores were recalculated could review their preference lists and be placed in the schools of their choice without any quota limitations.

On the other hand, allegations that some private schools are creating 'ghost classrooms' and issuing diplomas to students in exchange for high fees are also on the agenda. The Ministry is conducting a comprehensive investigation into such illegal practices.
