Statement from CHP's Dinçer on the housing crisis: 'It is falling dramatically'
CHP's Semra Dinçer stated, "While the homeownership rate in our country is falling dramatically every year, the rate of renters is increasing every year."
CHP Deputy Chairperson Semra Dinçer drew attention to the housing problem in Turkey in a written statement.
Stating that the narrative that everyone is a homeowner is merely a perception, Dinçer argued that the homeownership rate in Turkey has fallen from 64 percent to 57 percent over the last 10 years.
Dinçer made the assessment, "In 2014, the homeownership rate had risen to over 65 percent, but this rate has entered a major downward trend in recent years. If it continues like this, it will fall below 50 percent within a few years."
''THIS SHAME BELONGS TO THE AKP GOVERNMENT''
Claiming that Turkey ranks among the lowest in homeownership rates when compared to European Union countries, Dinçer noted the following:
"While the homeownership rate in our country is falling dramatically every year, the rate of renters is increasing every year. According to Eurostat data, homeownership rates are 74 percent in our neighbor Greece, 85 percent in Bulgaria, 73 percent in Italy, which is struggling with economic difficulties, 75 percent in Spain, 95 percent in Romania, 87 percent in Poland, and 92 percent in Hungary. Leaving aside the conditions in other countries, while almost everyone in Turkey is striving to escape being a renter and become a homeowner, unfortunately, the most difficult need to access today has become housing. This shame belongs to the AKP government."
