CHP's Esenyurt vigil continues: 'Politics cannot be designed by the judiciary'

CHP's Esenyurt vigil continues: 'Politics cannot be designed by the judiciary'

CHP Deputy Chair Gökçe Gökçen joined the vigil started by CHP members at Esenyurt Republic Square and made important statements.

Stating that the protest launched against the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee in his place is not limited to Esenyurt, Gökçen pointed out that this is a message to all of Turkey.

In her speech, Gökçen used the following expressions: "We know very well that the issue here is not just Esenyurt. A message is being attempted to be sent from Esenyurt to Istanbul, and from Istanbul to all of Turkey. We are aware of this. Politics cannot be designed by the judiciary."

'POLITICS CANNOT BE DESIGNED BY THE JUDICIARY'

The CHP Deputy Chair stated that Ahmet Özer is an academic who has made significant contributions to the world of science, and noted that they are distributing a booklet to the public against the arrest and the appointment of the trustee, explaining the contents of the case file to citizens. Gökçen added: "Someone is telling the truth. We have a booklet in our hands, and we are explaining all the lies regarding Mayor Ahmet and the question marks being raised in the public eye, one by one, from the case file."

Gökçen emphasized that the arrest of Ahmet Özer is not just a personal situation but was also carried out by a political will, and clarified her message by saying, "There are those who are resisting for democracy against the appointment of a trustee and those who sit in those seats."

DEMOCRACY STRUGGLE IN ISTANBUL

Touching upon the election cancellations that occurred in Istanbul in the past, Gökçen reminded that Istanbulites achieved a great success by protecting their will in the March 31 elections. She said, "The votes of Ekrem İmamoğlu, who won the election with a 13 thousand vote margin, were canceled. However, our people resolutely protected their will by holding the election again and increased the 13 thousand margin to 800 thousand."

Gökçen stated that the public's belief in justice and democracy will never disappear, saying, "This struggle will continue not only in Esenyurt but throughout all of Turkey." Saying, "Just as we did on May 6 and March 31, we will fight to bring democracy to this country," Gökçen emphasized that the Republican People's Party, which is the leading party in Turkey, will not give up this struggle.

In addition to CHP Deputy Chairs Gökçe Gökçen and Özgür Karabat, Istanbul MP Türkan Elçi, Kocaeli MP Özgür Harun Yıldızlı, and Kars MP İnan Akgün Alp also attended the protest. CHP members stated that they will continue their resistance at the vigil as a symbol of justice and democracy.
