Erdoğan's message on minimum wage: He gave the rate

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered journalists' questions upon his return from the G-20 summit held in Brazil.

Erdoğan gave messages regarding the minimum wage that will be valid in 2025. Reminding of the raise rates implemented in the last two years, Erdoğan said that they would act in a way to protect the purchasing power of employees.

Erdoğan stated, “Last year, we gave a 107.5 percent raise to the minimum wage. Inflation was 65 percent. This year, we gave a 49 percent raise. As of October, inflation is below 49 percent, and we will complete the year at around 44 percent according to the Central Bank's forecasts.”

WE WILL PERMANENTLY INCREASE PURCHASING POWER

Stating that inflation is on a downward trend, Erdoğan said, “Our most important goal is to permanently increase the purchasing power of our citizens. The way to achieve this is by reducing inflation to single digits. In 2025, the decline in inflation will continue with both the lagged effect of monetary policy and the tightening in fiscal policy.”

Arguing that the opposition is exploiting this issue, Erdoğan said, “We have not crushed our retirees, our civil servants, or our minimum wage earners under inflation, and we will not do so from now on.”

CENTRAL BANK'S INFLATION EXPECTATION HAS RISEN

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) revised its inflation forecasts upwards in its latest report. According to the report:

The year-end inflation forecast for 2024 is 44 percent,

The forecast for 2025 is 21 percent,

And the forecast for 2026 is projected at 12 percent.
