At the Republican People's Party (CHP) Ankara Provincial Advisory Board Meeting, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş made significant remarks regarding the "presidential candidacy" debates.

The meeting was attended by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, CHP Ankara Provincial Chairman Ümit Erkol, and many party members.

'THERE ARE MISSING PIECES IN THE MARCH 31 PICTURE'

Delivering the opening speech of the meeting, CHP Ankara Provincial Chair Ümit Erkol, highlighting the successes achieved in the local elections, congratulated CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, the CHP organizations, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, and the district mayors. Regarding the night of March 31, Erkol said, 'A picture of happiness began to be painted that night,' adding, 'There are missing parts to this picture. We will complete these missing parts, hopefully by 2028 at the latest, but most likely through an early general election that will be held.' he stated.

PARLIAMENT HAS BEEN RENDERED DYSFUNCTIONAL

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, in his speech at the meeting, emphasized the importance of the parliamentary system and stated that strong rhetoric on this issue should be developed at the Party Charter Congress. Yavaş used the following expressions at the meeting:

"It was said in 1885 that 'Too much power corrupts.' Today, there is no possibility of speaking about the separation of powers. Parliament has been rendered dysfunctional. Whatever instructions are sent, it is governed by decrees. I hope that at the Party Charter Congress, I believe there is a need for very strong rhetoric, especially regarding the transition to a parliamentary system. I think this should be our sine qua non. Personally, I would not want such power. Such power is no one's right, and it is not anyone's place to be this powerful."

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDACY DEBATES

Mansur Yavaş also responded sharply to the "presidential candidacy" debates. Yavaş said, "We will not fall for this game. From the 2019 elections to the 2023 elections, the sole topic of the so-called pro-government television channels, as if it were their duty, was to stir up discord by asking 'Who will be the candidate?' and pitting people against each other. They have started again. While we are striving to make people comfortable in the municipalities we have won and to ensure they are satisfied in the cities where they live peacefully, we do not like being used as fodder for these debates. I want everyone to know that these have no purpose other than to create internal conflict within the CHP and that we will not be a part of them." he stated.
