Slogan tension in the İmamoğlu trial: Sharp response from CHP to MHP! 'You are stealing both the ballot box and the municipality'
Support slogans during the second hearing of the trial against CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu have disturbed the MHP. CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir responded harshly to MHP's Feti Yıldız at a press conference held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Emir stated, "You are stealing the ballot box, democracy, and municipalities. Is this what we should be ashamed of?"
The second hearing of the trial in which Republican People's Party (CHP) presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is being tried on charges of "Threat," "Publicly Insulting a Public Official Due to Their Duty," and "Targeting Individuals Involved in Counter-Terrorism" due to his remarks regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, was held at the 14th High Criminal Court.
The chanting of support slogans for İmamoğlu both at the entrance of the courtroom and inside the hall disturbed the MHP.

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir responded to Feti Yıldız's statement, "In the past, politicians accused of crimes would look down in embarrassment when they appeared before a judge. Now, they come with slogans, ululations, and applause."

Emir, who held a press conference at the TBMM, used the following expressions:
"What Mr. Feti Yıldız should think about first is why we have come to this point. You are stealing the ballot box. You are stealing democracy. You are stealing bread. You are stealing everything belonging to the people.
And you are also stealing a municipality. You all saw how the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality was stolen. There is no concrete allegation. It concerns actions taken by the mayor before he was elected, but what is the goal? To steal the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality.
They are taking action for this, hastily gifting the municipality to the AKP, which lost it. Is this what we should blush for? Is this what we should be ashamed of?"
Stating that the judiciary has become politicized, Emir said, "We strongly condemn the fact that the one-man regime they brought, the judiciary being dependent on a single person, and that single person trying to present a political operation—which consists of putting rivals in prison through political operations to protect their power—as a trial."
