Özcan, who drew attention with his statements regarding CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the party leadership, had been referred to the High Disciplinary Board with a request for permanent expulsion. Following this, Özcan carried out a march from Bolu to Ankara with the slogan "Justice and Change."

Completing his march in front of the CHP Headquarters, Özcan had called on Kılıçdaroğlu to "resign."
